For this episode, Philip Shepherd, an expert in the embodied present process, shares with us a unique set of practices he developed to get us out of our heads and reconnect with the profound intelligence of our bodies.He relates how he came up with this idea through the study of physics and a 600-year-old Japanese theater called “Noh Theater.”

0:04:04.5 He compares our culture’s idea of the “gut brain” ─ the stomach prone to indigestion and weight gain ─ to that of the Japanese which they call “hara.” He has a beautiful explanation of how it means completely differently from ours and the way the Japanese culture honors it

0:06:52.0 As to the process of dropping in, they go into a detailed discussion on the importance of the breath and how it should be made available all the way down to the pelvic bowl, filling the body from the bottom up.

0:15:20.4 After the break, Sharon expressed her concerns on “too much of letting go of the conscious mind” to which Philip distinguishes between safety and security. The fact is, if we’re alive, we’re not safe and we try to “diminish” our aliveness feeling which keeps us safe.

0:18:53.7 They also delve into intuition and the idea that everything is learned causing us to lose our ability to tap into it and deceive ourselves that there is no such thing. We have taken charge of our lives by using our head, getting things right, and knowing what the right answers and choices are.

Philip also says that wholeness isn’t something you achieve. It’s something we find only through surrender.
