Adam Markel’s Interview
The first guest for this episode is Adam Markel, a “recovering attorney,” as he describes himself who left the practice of law after eighteen years of “not loving it” much of the time and now guides people to massive business and lasting personal and professional growth.
0:02:34.3 After stating that how you do one thing is how you do your whole life, Sharon asks him about the idea of reinventing and pivoting, the work he teaches that has a lot to do with mental outlook, health, relationships, etc.
0:07:34.4 He says that the first step when someone begins the pivot process is to breathe.
He then talks about his book Pivot: The Art and Science of Reinventing Your Career and Life which is divided up into three pieces: clarity, momentum, about taking action. He discusses the pivoting process and what to do when one gets an unexpected diagnosis, a death, a loss of a job, things that catch us off guard. He talks about things that he typically talks about: One is to embrace; the second is to embody; and the third is to execute.
0:20:38.2 His next book is about resilience and he states that if there’s an important skill or tool today that is very important to cultivate, it’s the skill of resilience because change is constant.
He goes to share tips on building resilience and the importance of rituals in doing so.
0:33:35.0 With only a few minutes left, Adam shares a gift, a Facebook group called “Start my Pivot” and he invites the listeners to join the community for self-discovery as well as for some of the rituals that they have used to create more resilience
0:36:15.8 The second part is a conversation with Roberta Mittman whom Sharon calls her “in-house wellness coach.” They talk about getting back on course when one falls off the wagon.
She shares what she calls “3 R’s”: recognize, reframe, and reclaim; and she stresses the importance of visualizing.
